City govt resolves to retrieve land

In a meeting at the office of Rawalpindi division commissioner on Wednesday, government officials said they will retrieve public and private land from illegal occupation and encroachments.


District Coordination Officer (DCO) Saqib Zafar said that the City District Government Rawalpindi had retrieved state land of Forest Department from illegal occupants in Murree and Rawalpindi and teams are also taking action against illegal encroachers along Nullah Leh, said an official press release of district government.

DCO Jhelum Mirza Mehmoodul Hasan said that 818 out of 840 kanals of state land have been recovered from illegal occupants in Jhelum; recovery of lands of the irrigation department in the district was also underway, he added.

This was said in a meeting with Rawalpindi Commissioner Zahid Saeed in the chair, to review the arrangements for anti-adulteration, profiteers, qabza (land) mafia, hoarders and those involved in sale of spurious and substandard medicines, drinks and other food items.

The district coordination officers of Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Chakwal and Attock, additional commissioner, divisional and district officers of health, agriculture and other concerned departments attended the meeting.

Zahid Saeed on Wednesday directed the district administrations of all the four districts of Rawalpindi division to take stern action against those shopkeepers and traders who were involved in adulteration and hoarding.

He also directed the officials to expedite efforts to retrieve state and private land from land mafia in their respective areas. He ordered the administrations of four districts to point out the lands in their respective areas to construct Ashiana Housing Schemes as per the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
