IHC summons DC, SSP in container case

Transport firm says suffering losses due to forced acquisition of containers for blocking roads

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday summoned the deputy commissioner (DC) and operations senior superintendent of police of Islamabad on Thursday in a petition regarding containers being held for the Jamiat Ulema Islam-F march.

IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah heard the petition filed by a private company on the matter. The petitioner nominated the interior ministry, and home departments and inspectors general of police of Punjab and Sindh as respondents.

The transport company has filed the petition in IHC against the forced acquisition of it containers by police for blocking roads ahead of Azadi march.

The lawyer representing the company Muhammad Safdar Janjua stated that his client was engaged in the business of import and distribution of perishable goods including vegetables and fruits from China. Police have seized many containers of the company for blocking roads ahead of the Azadi march, the counsel said.

The company was facing heavy losses due to this forced acquisition of containers, he said.

He asserted that it was a clear violation of the fundamental right under Article 18 of the Constitution.

He pleaded the court to issue notices to Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad and SSP Islamabad to explain the law under which the containers had been detained.

Apart from this, the petitioner said that the respondents must be asked of how the government would compensate for the loss of affected persons.

IHC serves contempt of court notice to Firdous Ashiq Awan

The court adjourned the case after summoning DC Islamabad and SSP Islamabad.

PMDC dissolution

IHC served notices to respondents in a petition challenging the dissolution of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) and terminating services of its all staff.

Justice Moshin Akhter Kiyani took up the petition for hearing filed by ex-registrar PM&DC Brig (reted) Dr Hafeezuddin and 31 other former officers challenging the Ordinance which dissolved the council. The petitioner's counsel pleaded the court that the government had promulgated Pakistan Medical Commission 2019.
