CDWP approves seven projects worth Rs26.1b

Recommends three schemes of Rs52b to ECNEC

ISLAMABAD: The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) on Wednesday approved seven projects worth Rs26.1 billion and recommended three schemes of Rs52.2 billion to the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (Ecnec) for consideration.

The meeting was chaired by Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan. Senior officials of federal and provincial governments were present in the meeting.

Two projects related to energy supply and area development were presented in the meeting. The CDWP approved the Bajour Area Development Project worth Rs861.9 million. The project is aimed at eliminating poppy cultivation by providing alternative livelihood facilities to the residents of Bajour district. It will also make the area accessible for political administration through the development of rural infrastructure.

Another project namely Mohmand Area Development Project worth Rs796.6 million was also approved. The CDWP referred the Dualisation and Improvement of Mandra, Chakwal Road Project related to transport and communications worth Rs12.8 billion to Ecnec for approval.

The project included improvement of a 64km-long existing road with a width of 7.3 metres and construction of an additional 7.3-metre-wide road to make it dual carriageway besides provision of allied facilities and structures.

The Skills for All strategy worth Rs9.9 billion was also approved in the meeting.

The project pertains to manpower and is aimed at provision of sufficiently skilled workforce for various national projects like China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects and the international job market.

Four projects related to physical planning and housing were presented in the meeting. Out of them, the Gravity Flow Water Supply Scheme, Mansehra worth Rs6.5 billion, Readiness Financing for Punjab Project worth Rs2.6 billion and Upgrading of Cabinet Division’s Aviation Squadron for Relief Operations worth Rs638.8 million were approved by the CDWP. The fourth project titled Development of Kartarpur Sahib Corridor on engineering, procurement and construction (EPC)/turnkey basis worth Rs1.6 billion was referred to Ecnec.

Two projects related to water resources were also presented in the meeting. The Kachhi Canal Project worth Rs2.3 billion was recommended to Ecnec while Toiwar Batozai Storage Dam project worth Rs4.9 billion was approved by the CDWP.
