Pakistan issues commemorative coin to mark Guru Nanak 550th birth anniversary

Sikh pilgrims visiting Gurdwara Kartarpur will be able to buy coin of worth Rs50, says official

LAHORE: The government of Pakistan on Tuesday issued commemorative coin to mark the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Devji – the founder of Sikh religion.

The move comes after Islamabad and New Delhi last week signed an agreement to open the Kartarpur Corridor for Sikh pilgrims to visit Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib – one of Sikhism’s holiest pilgrimage sites in Narowal district of Punjab – without a visa.

Prime Minister Imran Khan will formally inaugurate the corridor on November 9, three days before the 550th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak.



On Monday, he also laid the foundation stone of Baba Guru Nanak University in Nankana Sahib.

Evacuee Trust Property Board (EPTB) Chairman Dr Amir Ahmed told The Express Tribune that Sikh pilgrims visiting Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib next month to celebrate the anniversary of their religious founder, will be able to buy the coin of worth Rs50.

The postage stamps will also issued, which will be worth Rs8 and could be used commonly, will have the image of Gurdwara Janam Asthan.
