Talking to Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) President Muhammad Ahmed Waheed on Saturday, Yao stressed that Pakistan should focus on manufacturing and value addition in different products for enhancing its exports.
He said Chinese companies were interested in investing in Pakistan and more supportive policies were required for joint ventures. “Pakistan can enhance its share of exports by ensuring product quality and competitive prices,” Yao said.
He pointed out that the China International Import Export Expo 2019 offered good opportunities for exporters to enter the Chinese market and emphasised that Pakistani companies should take part in such exhibitions.
The ambassador assured businessmen that China would encourage more delegations from Pakistan to explore new areas of cooperation and revealed that a Chinese delegation from the agriculture sector would visit Pakistan at the end of October.
The envoy added that the Chinese Commercial Section would provide support for more cooperation between the two countries by holding cultural events and arranging training and capacity-building programmes.
Speaking on the occasion, the ICCI president said Chinese investors should help Pakistani companies in acquiring technology through joint ventures, particularly in the Special Economic Zones.
He said IT and services sectors were potential areas of cooperation between the two countries and stressed the need for identifying top-10 import goods of China, which would help Pakistan export those products.
Waheed said the visit of Pakistan’s investors to hi-tech companies in China was important for exploring new avenues of mutual cooperation. He also asked for Chinese embassy’s cooperation in arranging such visits.
The ICCI president assured the envoy of making all-out efforts for developing business relations between private sectors of the two countries.
