38-year-old Anthony Hoskins from Southampton, England, was on the waiting list of the National Health Service (NHS) to have his wisdom tooth removed.
In a statement released by the police, Anthony's mother said her son first complained of severe toothache in January this year.
However, his condition continued to deteriorate to the point where he resorted to self-medication, consuming large amounts of painkillers such as paracetamol and ibuprofen.

This compelled his mother to save up for private treatment. She had managed to save around £900 by March, when Anthony told her "he'd had enough of the pain".
He was found dead in his apartment in Southampton on April 3.
"Anthony is at rest now and will not suffer any more pain," said the mother. "The really sad thing is that it cost me almost the same amount of money to pay for his death that it would have to have private dental treatment," she added.
Private treatment for wisdom tooth extraction costs around £1,500 in the United Kingdom.
