ISLAMABAD: In a bid to tackle rising noise pollution owing to vehicles, the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has constituted special squads. These squads have removed as many as 1,577 pressure horns from vehicles and imposed heavy fines on their drivers.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Farrukh Rashid and a police spokesperson said that that the ITP has accelerated action against those using pressure horns because they contribute to noise pollution which affects the nerves and is injurious to human health. Strict action will be taken against those to install pressure horns, he added.

These squads have been further directed to regularly check vehicles and fine those found responsible for creating noise pollution or other environmental pollution in the city. The purpose of this entire practice is to end noise pollution in the city, the SSP maintained.
