No concessions should be offered to elements playing with human lives: Sindh IGP

He directed police to take swift action is taken against gutka, mawa, and other items which are injurious to health

KARACHI: Sindh IGP Dr Syed Kaleem Imam said on Friday that action against organised crimes should be strict and swift. "No concessions should be offered to the elements playing with human lives," said Dr Imam in a statement issued on Friday. He directed the police to department to ensure swift action is taken against gutka, mawa, mainpuri, and other items which are injurious to health. "Dens of drugs, liquour, gambling and other social evils shouldn't just be monitored covertly but the information should be conveyed timely and swift action should be ensured," he directed.

The IGP said that the relevant supervisory officers would be held accountable if any complaints are received regarding the sale and manufacture of Gutka and other items.

According to spokespersons of the police department, a report was submitted on the action taken against drugs since September 12, 2018 till September 12, 2019, stated that the police department has registered a total of 20,856 cases against elements engaged in the sale and facilitation of gutka, mawa, mainpuri, hashish, heroin, ice, and opium while 25,203 suspects have been arrested. The police have also seized 434,652 kilogrammes of gutka, mawa and mainpuri, 359,113 litre of alcohol, 93, 480 grams of hashish, more than 1kg heroin, 132kg ice and over 336kg of opium.
