Society and individual

Letter October 20, 2019
Man is a social animal and cannot survive without society

KARACHI: I would like tell the young generation that while talking or writing one should try to discuss serious things with humour. In this way things become enjoyable and worth listening to or reading. Talk and writing should not be loaded with dry philosophising. This makes things boring and puts people off. Wit, satire and humour are essential for talking and writing.

Moreover, in today’s world we see more and more people are drawing away from company. Things have become painfully interiorised. If a group of people are travelling together, we generally see nearly all of them are busy with their cell phones. They do not talk to one another. They do not discuss anything with one another. In this way travel becomes a painfully boring affair, whether it is long-distance travel or short commutes. This situation is resulting in a feeling of loneliness. Are we following someone who has said that, there is no such thing as society; there are only individuals and families. This is making people selfish. One should not be away from society and his or her surroundings. Man is a social animal and he/she has to live in society. Man cannot survive without society. At every step he/she has depend on others. We should have social interaction. It is a must for mankind’s survival.
