Rafi Peer Theater celebrates a successful 45 years

Organisation will hold various art and music festivals in November with a schedule to be out soon

LAHORE: On completing 45 years of a successful run, the Rafi Peer Theater Workshop will be organising various events in different parts of Lahore. It is a non-government organisation dedicated to the cause of promoting culture and art globally.

Since its inception, the theatre group has grown to encompass the Rafi Peer Cultural Centre, housing the museum of puppetry, an arts and crafts village and Peeru’s cafe.

Talking to The Express Tribune, the CEO of the workshop, Saadaan Peerzada said, “Our upcoming events and cultural activities will commemorate the 45-year-long service our threatre group has provided. We will be holding music festivals, performing art activities and celebrating the art discoveries we have made. A schedule is also y67 being drafted with respect to the subject.”

Rafi Peer has held over 78 art festivals including the World Performing Art Festival, International Puppet Festival, Youth Performing Art Festival, International Mystic Music Sufi Festival, International Film Festival, Saanjh Amritsar Lahore Peace Festival and the Oslo Mela among others.

The foundation also focuses on robust outreach programmes that include initiatives for awareness, development and education, including a management company for young musicians. The company embraces both traditional and modern forms of music, encouraging international and cultural artists to engage and exchange the various forms of art.

The communication advisor of Rafi Peer Group, Tasneem Peerzada, mentioned that the institution’s relationship with art and young artists has evolved over a span of 30 years. She elaborated on how the development provided an outreach, owing to which a large audience began participating in their events.

“Our relationship with children and music has evolved over a span of 30 years. We developed personal interactions by promoting joyful educational content and quality music, following which we ended up building a culturally sound audience. Our aim was to curate various platforms across the country, which can showcase our cultural heritage and landscape to its very best,” she stated.

Renowned TV personality Usman Peerzada highlighted when the events commemorating the special occasion will take place.

"The Rafi Peer Theater Workshop will organise special events and cultural activities in the month of November, and hopefully the turn out for those events will help us discover something new. Recently, the Embassy of France had also organised an event specifically to pay a tribute to the services of Rafi Peer Group. It was a pleasure to be acknowledged for our contributions in the field of promoting art and culture,” he concluded.
