The Foreign Office (FO) on Wednesday summoned India’s top diplomat in Pakistan over unprovoked ceasefire violations by the Indian forces along the Line of Control (LoC).

"Dr. Mohammad Faisal, summoned the Indian Deputy High Commissioner Mr. Gaurav Ahluwalia again today and condemned the unprovoked ceasefire violations by the Indian occupation forces along the Line of Control (LoC) in Nezapir Sector on October 15, 2019."

A 55-year-old man along with two minors was martyred while eight civilians sustained injuries in Indian shelling on Pakistani villages in Nezapir Sector.

The Indian occupation forces along the LoC and Working Boundary have continuously targetted civilian areas with artillery, heavy-calibre mortars, and automatic weapons, which still continues, added the statement.

"This unprecedented escalation in ceasefire violations by India is continuing from the year 2017 when the Indian forces committed 1970 ceasefire violations."

The deliberate targeting of civilian populated areas is indeed deplorable and contrary to human dignity, international human rights and humanitarian laws, said the FO.

It further said the ceasefire violations by India are a threat to regional peace and security and may lead to a strategic miscalculation.

Faisal also urged India to respect the 2003 ceasefire arrangement in letter and spirit and to instruct its forces to maintain peace on the LoC and the Working Boundary.

The spokesperson also called for an investigation into the continuing ceasefire violations by Indian forces and said New Delhi must permit the United Nations Military Observers Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) to play its mandated role as per the UN Security Council resolutions.
