Turkey and Syria

Letter October 14, 2019
The civilised world should raise its voice and put pressure on the Turkish government to stop the war in Syria

BALOCHISTAN: Despite the fact that war is never a solution, different states are using this tool to pressure others. Recently, Turkey has done so, by invading Syria and starting a bloodshed. Syrians, for a while, breathed in peace, but now another cloud of war is hovering over them. As Turkey wants to vacate a 32-km border area to accommodate the 2 million refugees it had sheltered.

These initial battles have claimed thousands of deaths on both sides. People have started to flee the war zone. Turkey’s treatment of Kurds has come under criticism. Unfortunately, the UN, as usual, is playing no effective role to call ceasefire. Previously, there were rare occasions on which the UN has responded and resolved any conflict. Therefore, the UN should cease its operations as League of Nations did in 1946, which was also unable to perform its responsibility of maintaining peace among countries.

The civilised world should raise its voice and put pressure on the Turkish government to stop the war in Syria.
