Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s niece has become a victim of rising street crimes and sexual violence in India.

Damayanti Ben Modi was robbed on Saturday soon after she reached her guest house in Delhi to catch her next flight to Ahmedabad, India Today reported on Sunday.

The incident occurred while she was descending from an auto-rickshaw outside the guest house when two bike-borne miscreants wrenched her purse containing two cellular phones and cash up to Rs50,000.

Three cops implicated in robbery case

However, one of the robbers involved in the misdeed was arrested on Sunday as police continue the hunt for the second assailant.

In the past couple of months, several occurrences of robbery and sexual violence have been reported in the country.

Earlier in September, a woman journalist sustained injuries after she fell from the vehicle in an attempt to resist a snatching bid in the Indian capital city while she was returning home in an auto-rickshaw.
