Professor, son stabbed to death in Karachi

Aasia, professor’s wife, had gone for a walk, found her husband, son dead on her return

KARACHI: Mutilated bodies of a retired professor of Dawood Engineering College and his son were found from a bungalow in DHA Phase V, in the jurisdiction of Boat Basin Police Station, on Wednesday.

The deceased - identified as Dr Fasih Usmani, 70, and Kamran Usmani, 25 - were stabbed to death at their house on Wednesday morning.

On being informed, Rangers and police officials reached the crime scene and have initiated an inquiry into the dual murder case. They have collected blood samples, fingerprints and other evidence from the place of the incident.

Talking to the media, SSP Sheeraz Nazir said that police were informed of the incident via police helpline on Wednesday, at around 8 am, following which a police party reached the spot and sealed the bedroom from where the bodies were found.

The bodies were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for post-mortem.

According to SSP Nazir, no valuables, including laptops, mobile phones, cash and jewellery, were found missing from the deceased's house, which shows that the murderer hadn't stolen anything. He further revealed that Dr Usmani was living in the United States for many years before he shifted to Pakistan a year ago after one of his sons died. His other son, Kamran, had moved to Karachi a few months ago.

Investigation SP Tariq Dharejo also confirmed that Dr Usmani was living in the bungalow with his wife, Aasia, and son, while one of his daughters was settled in Canada and another in the United States. He said that the family had not hired any domestic servants and Aasia had gone out for a walk when the incident took place. When his wife returned, she found the house's gate left ajar and her husband and son lying dead inside a room, said Dharejo. She then informed the police of the incident on the police helpline, Madadgar-15, he added.

Two shot dead over petty issues

According to Dharejo, evidence gathered from the crime scene shows that Dr Fasih hadn't resisted the murderer's attempt but Kamran did. However, he said that further details will be clear after the post-mortem of the bodies. He added that further investigation of the dual murder case was underway and police were trying to get hold of the CCTV footage.

Reportedly, police have also recorded Aasia's initial statement. She has said in her statement that she and Dr Usmani used to go for a walk daily after Fajr prayers but on October 8, Dr Usmani had stayed back because he said he was sleepy. She said that she had left the back door of the house unlocked so that her husband or son wouldn't have to wake up to open the door on her return. According to Aasia, she saw her husband and son's bodies lying in blood on her return, as a result of which she panicked and started shouting.
