Firms for Leh Expressway shortlisted

RAWALPINDI: The long-pending Leh Expressway moves another step ahead as three firms have been shortlisted for being awarded the  contract of the project. The related companies have provided all requisite information to the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA). The contract for project cost with up to Rs.75 billion is expected to be awarded in November. The focal person of the project Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed and Commissioner Rawalpindi Saqib Zafar will visit the project’s site next week. The expressway will be constructed on Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis however the government is making efforts for project’s inclusion in China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Earlier, the government was mulling plans to extend the expressway to be 24-kilometres-long from its initial estimate of 13 km. The government, while finalising its PC-I had decided to extend it by another six kilometres to 19 km.
