What was the government waiting for?

Letter July 11, 2011
The country’s largest city will keep on seeing more such violence if the SC does not take note of it.

KARACHI: If a report in your newspaper is to be believed, the Rangers took control of Karachi’s troubled Kati Pahari and Qasba Colony without firing a single shot. The question that comes to mind is that if the deployment of the paramilitaries was going to cause the violence and the killings to stop, why did it take so long for the Sindh government to act? What was it waiting for? Why was this decision not taken on the first day of violence? Or even the second day? Who was pulling the strings of security agencies and preventing them from taking action? Clearly, this is a case for the Supreme Court to take note of, so that at least some responsibility can be fixed on those responsible for the crimes and murders committed. As long as this isn’t done, the country’s largest city will keep on seeing more such violence.
