Child labour

Letter October 07, 2019
The government should be held responsible for protecting the basic rights of children

RAWALPINDI: Currently, Pakistan is facing a lot of socio-economic issues. One of these, which is growing and putting a negative impact on our society, is child labour. As a community and society, we must stop the social ill of child labour. Children’s rights should be ensured.

Every child has a right to education according to the law of Pakistan but instead of getting basic education they don’t even have basic necessities which force them to work in places like workshops, factories, roadside hotels, tyre shops, mines, house workers, etc.

Most of the children are forced to work. It is against the principles of human rights and the laws of justice. Our society is also taking advantage of their innocence and circumstances. They work to support their families. Ironically, parents encourage them. It is the government’s responsibility to ensure that the basic rights of children, their needs and education ensured. Also, our society should contribute to and initiate campaigns for the sake of awareness to discourage child labour and smuggling. Considering the above-stated facts, it is important to address this problem as soon as possible otherwise there will be no place for us among well-established societies in future. I hope that the government will do the needful.
