She informed that the government had been provided with necessary equipment including dengue testing kits and an awareness campaign was being carried out and suggested that people should immediately consult a doctor in case of a fever or ache in different body parts. She said that people should keep their houses and surroundings clean.
The representative was received by Railway Divisional Superintendent Munawwar Shah and other officials.
On the occasion, Dr Mahipala appreciated the government on anti-dengue measures and said that it would get rid of the epidemic soon. She added that WHO completely supported Pakistan in the cause and were satisfied with government’s efforts thus far.
Furthermore, Munawwar Shah said that WHO distributed awareness pamphlets while they were keeping an eye on the virus-carrying mosquitoes through 15 surveillance teams.
Report on dengue
Rawalpindi Division Commissioner Saqib Zafar taking notice of reports about dengue outbreak in Chakwal district has sought a report from Chakwal deputy commissioner about the situation.
The commissioner directed the administration to take measures to contain the epidemic threat and safeguard the lives of the people.
According to a statement issued on Saturday, he said that the provincial government is staying vigilant and is ready to undertake all possible measures for dengue prevention and similar efforts are required in all districts of the Rawalpindi division including both rural and urban areas.
He said that the public awareness outreach campaign should also be geared up to educate the masses for prevention from dengue. The commissioner asked officers of the administration and allied departments to work with close coordination and ensure preventive measures with active participation of community members.
Awareness camp
The communication teams of Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) with the collaboration of Albaryak on Saturday established a dengue awareness camp at Dhoke Chaudhariyan to create awareness among citizens about the dengue virus and to motivate them to keep their surroundings clean for the elimination of the fatal virus.
According to a spokesman, the communication teams of RWMC and Albaryak established an awareness camp in Dhoke Chaudhriyan in Union Council - 81 to make people aware of dengue virus and its impact on human life. The teams appealed the participants and the public at large to keep their houses and workplaces dry and clean in order to avoid breeding and growth of dengue larvae.
The teams called upon the residents to keep an eye on junkyards, schools and under construction buildings which led to the spread of dengue larvae and encouraged them to leave no place wet or with stagnant water and urged people to keep their surroundings neat and clean.
“Keeping our surroundings clean will only help in the betterment of society,” the spokesman said.
On the occasion, the officials also distributed pamphlets inscribed with the key messages and information about the precautionary measures against dengue larvae.
