RAWALPINDI: Ten buffaloes left roaming by owners on railway tracks were crushed to death by a train heading to Lahore from Rawalpindi on Thursday. According to the witnesses, 10 buffaloes were grazing on the track near Mandra Kalyam and did not move away though the train driver blew horn. The train tried to apply emergency brakes, but the impact could not be avoided. People in Pakistan are oblivious of the fact that train cannot move from the tracks and always blame the railways for such accidents. The 10 buffaloes died on the spot. Local people said that two of the mammals got stuck underneath the train’s engine and were dislodged by passengers, train staff and locals after two hours of struggle. The witnesses said that the animals belonged to the locals.
