HYDERABAD: Monsoon showers lashed several districts in Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas and Nawabshah divisions on Thursday. The rainfall reduced the intensity of the heat as the mercury peaked at up to 40 degree Celsius in Nawabshah and 39 degree Celsius in Hyderabad earlier in the day. The Pakistan Meteorological Department recorded up to 16 millimetres of rain, which was accompanied by thunderstorms, in Hyderabad.  The downpour entailed widespread power outages, with the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company claiming that it suspended electric supply for safety reasons in the cities and villages where it rained.  The company’s spokesman claimed that the power supply from almost half of Hyderabad’s electric feeders was suspended. “The electric supply will be resumed after getting clearance from the field staff,” said the spokesman, Sadiq Kubar. The strong winds brought several trees and signboards to the ground in Hyderabad. A sign board fell on the road near Chandi Shopping Center in Saddar area, breaking an 11,000 KV power supply line and damaging three vehicles as well.
