Brother of prominent human rights activist Ansar Burney has said that after Dr Ishratul Ebad stepped down from the post of Governor Sindh, Ansar Burney was contacted multiple times by President Zardari who asked him to take the post, but he (Ansar) “will not take up the job.” Ever since the MQM announced breaking away from the coalition – as a result of which MQM’s Dr Ishratul Ebad resigned from the post of Governor Sindh - speculation was rife as to who will take up the post.
Although Ansar was not available for comment, his brother Sarim Burney said he was fully authorised to speak on his brother’s behalf. “Ansar will not consider the offer. It is not the right thing to do because Ansar believes Dr Ebad should be brought back in view of his contributions for the city and the country,” he said.

Burney sahib, PLEASE accept! This is the only way we will get good hearted and decent people in high positions within Pakistan to counter our bayghairat politicians. For the sake of Karachi, we need people like you as Governor.
HE DONT WANNA BE LIKE HAKIM M. SAEED SAHAB SHAheed.
I think people like Javed Jabbar be requested by President Zardari to become the Governor of Sindh. We badly need a non partisan and honest person to be the Governor of Sindh.
@Salman Orangiwala
First of all if you live in sindh then are you not sindhi? more importantly maybe we should all focus on being Pakistani for a change!
You should also know that Niamatullah Khan is from an Urdu speaking background, he migrated to Pakistan from Ajmer in 1947, he left everything behind and came to Pakistan during partition.
People here are suggesting so many names. Why not any one from Christian, Hindu, Parsi community ???? What about me, hahahahaha, I am serious.
And what has he done for the city and the country? How easily our people are fooled.
The Governors of the Provinces as well as the President are in theory supposed to be neutral. This has not been the case for quite some time. If Ansar Burney has been offered the post he should accept as we need people like him to help pave the way forward. We might do well to consider others such as Abdul Sattar Edhi.
Naimatulla Khan was an excellent city administrator, under his nazimship Karachi saw a time of peace and prosperity that even Mustafa Kemal can not match. Much of the development work that was completed in Mr. Kemal's time was initiated by Naimatullah Khan. Despite Mustafa Kemals claims of development he unfortunately did nothing about the dramatic increase in crime during his tenure.
Mr. Burney is a good option. While, another point to be noted that on the day Mr. Ibad was leaving, Mr. Burney was also accompanied with him. So, it shows MQM also support this.
Javed Jabaar who ?
Same goes for Naimatullah .
We are the majority in Karachi , If the CM has to be a Sindhi , the Governor has to be from us , and yes not a puppet on a chain like Naimat or Javed Jabbar et al .
Mr. Ansar Burney, VIVA!!! Well said and done. Stick to your nobility and remain a hero for Pakistanis who to date continue to hold you in high esteem. My Salams to you brother.
@Dr. Saleem Siddiqi:
You have absolutely little to no idea about Karachi and its political dynamics. First of all, the post of governor is meant to be an apolitical one and Naimatullah is one guy who currently holds no office with JI and shares a very goo reputation even amongst the most staunch of opposition parties.
Secondly, you are absolutely flawed in your judgement of JI not been able to win a single municipal seat in Karachi. Ji is in fact the second strognest party in the city after MQM - PPP and ANP are distant third and fourth runners. And the last time, JI actually contested in general elections in 2002 (agreed that it was under MMA umbrella), it managed to win a handful of seats. It still has considerable presence in Karachi, so kindly revisit your stance.
P.s. I am not a JI supporter - I am just an observer of Karachi politics.
Dear Mr.President Javed Jabbar for Governer Sindh please.
Dear Mr.President Javed Jabbar for Governer Sindh Please.
on a separate note, I think Mustafa Kamal knows the 'city' better than anyone else. Why is it so that anyone who supports MQM, is a NO NO. And we call the west racist.
Naimatuallah knows city well? Did you notice that we are talking about Governor of Sindh, not Governor of Karachi - broaden your horizons please.
Plus, the governor, does it even matter? the decision are made in federal - and that too by a single person, the President of Pakistan.
I really appreciate the move by Ishrat ul Ibad - a sign of protest, and I don't think any governor will be willing to leave the comforts of his office, whatever the reasons may be.
@Hmmm: one of the best person for governor of sindh is naimatullah . he knows city well and honest person . but i think he is ill also political ideology difference b/w JI and ppp . but it my request to maimatullah please please for people of Karachi he should accept this post if offer to him .
@Hmmm: Yes this a good chance for those who cannot even win a single Municipal Seat in Karachi to grab such a golden chance.
Their future will be bright - - -

That is the true spirit. Bravo Ansar Burney. It proves that good people know when to remain silent and not take advantage of situations.
No one has asked Mr. Burney to become governor. The story is just a fabrication.
No one has asked him to be governor yet. The story is just a fabrication.
i have heard they are seriously thinking of appointing the ex-city Nazim Naimatullah Khan as the Governor!! Nto a bad choice imo.
Janab Ansar Sahib, it would be a great day for this broken society to have a charismatic and talented human like you as the President or Prime Minister of our country. We need a humanist leader like Gandhiji who can speak in the souls of people and unite them!
Why not others become Sindh Governor? We need intellectual, non political, influential person. Not party black mailers (from any political party of sindh)
Ansar Burney is not real neutral as one might suppose. He has been hobnobbing with Ishrat ul Ibad recently. Transaction of more than two millions of US dollars was reason of raising eyebrows of the United Nations. But even then I suppose he was hundred times better then Ishrat ul Ibaad who had turned governor's mansion into another Nine Zero.
PPP has to select someone else who could represent federation rather a political party.
Some body will become Governor of Sindh.
People should wait and see as who will be the next Governor of Sindh.
Ansar Burney, Asma Jehangir and Abdul Sattar Edhi are doing much greater job than what a Governor can do in any province.
Bargaining cannot buy principles of people.
The tenure of next Governor of Sindh will be six month only.
Ansar Burney and his ilk are one of the reasons I am optimistic that Pakistan may turn for the better. In the darkness of its rogue army, inept and corrupt politicians, people like Burney burn bright showing the way forward.
For all those who think Indians hate Pakistanis - they should come and witness the amount of goodwill Burney carries in India. He is the living proof that goodwill begets goodwill.
Well Done Mr. Burney. You are a prime example that there are still a few people who have dignity & principles & can take a stand.
