Nepra allows Rs1.66 hike in power tariff

40.33% electricity was generated from water in the month of August

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on Wednesday approved an increase of Rs1.66 per unit in the electricity tariff under fuel adjustment for the month of August.

At a Nepra hearing, requested by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA), the regulator was informed that in the month of August, 40.33% electricity was generated from water.



Other sources included coal (13.34%), domestic gas (11.87%), imported liquified natural gas or LNG (22.89%), furnace oil (3.60%) and nuclear (4.66%). The case officer also told the hearing that RLNG was higher than Nepra's reference price.

The officer said that Rs3.4 billion could have been saved if more efficient coal-based plants were operated for power generation. The increase will not apply to the consumers of the K-Electric. It will cost consumers a cumulative amount of Rs22.6 billion.
