PIA to resume Sialkot-Kuwait flights

Decision comes as air carrier expects high passenger traffic

KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has decided to resume flights on the Sialkot-Kuwait route at the end of current month as it expects a flow of heavy passenger traffic.

“We will resume flights on the Sialkot-Kuwait route on the night between October 27 and 28,” said PIA spokesperson Mashhood Tajwar while talking to The Express Tribune.

Owing to the shortage of airplanes, the national flag carrier had discontinued direct flights between Sialkot and Kuwait in 2018.

A huge number of workers travel to Kuwait from Sialkot because the airport also caters to travellers of adjoining areas like Pasrur, Daska, Sambrial, Narowal, Gujrat and many others.

The resumption of Sialkot-Kuwait flights will facilitate people from all these areas. “The Sialkot-Kuwait flight will run twice a week,” said the spokesperson. Initially, the airline will use Airbus A320 on the route, which is a short to medium-range narrow-body aircraft and has the capability to carry 150 to 160 passengers at a time.

PIA has also started direct flights between Sialkot and London in the hope of heavy passenger traffic.

The national airline repaired a few aircraft recently, raising the total number of operational aircraft to 31. It has also shared plans to induct new aircraft into its fleet.
