Marking of roads

Efforts should be made to control the flow of traffic through discipline and law

KARACHI: Traffic management, particularly in big cities of Pakistan, appears to be a very difficult and demanding job. The authorities concerned are reportedly making concerted efforts to control the flow of traffic through discipline and law.

One area which needs focus is the marking of roads. Under the prevalent condition of traffic congestion the administration in Karachi has to deal with, it will be a step in the right direction. We have experienced that traffic on roads which are marked is well controlled and disciplined compared to traffic moving on unmarked roads. Accordingly, all roads should be marked, providing lanes to vehicles so that they proceed within their own lanes, instead of moving into the path of other vehicles. Under this arrangement, the offenders who swerve left and right at a great speed, without indicators, will find it difficult to do so on marked roads. These offenders not only put the lives of other people at risk but at times are trapped in a situation where they themselves become a victim! The relevant authorities are indeed well conversant with their jobs, continuously planning to bring improvement. The above request is only for their kind consideration and betterment of the traffic situation in the city.
