ROSEAU:

Test debutant Kirk Edwards and veteran Shivnarine Chanderpaul led a West Indies fightback before India claimed three late wickets to edge closer to victory in the third Test.

Edwards scored 110, and Chanderpaul gathered an unbeaten 73 that helped West Indies to 224 for six in their second-innings - a lead of just 81.

For almost four hours, the tourists met defiance from the duo in a 161-run fourth-wicket stand, which led a recovery for the hosts, who were once 40 for three.

Harbhajan finally made the breakthrough, dismissing Edwards at 110. He then removed Marlon Samuels. India kept the pressure up until the close and Carlton Baugh was caught at extra cover for 10.

Earlier, India’s lower-order batting was undermined by Fidel Edwards as the tourists were dismissed for 347 replying to West Indies’ first-innings total of 204.

India currently hold a 1-0 lead in the series, following a 63-run victory in Jamaica.

MS Dhoni’s men are vying to become the first Indian side to bag a Test and One-Day International series in the Caribbean.
