ICT administration seeks CDA help in setting up bio-gas plant

To provide a new avenue for recycling of bio waste which till now is merely dumped

ISLAMABAD: The federal capital is likely to get a bio-gas plant which will run on emissions from rotten vegetables and trash of city’s wholesale fruit and vegetable market.

Formalities in this regard shall be completed within this week and work is likely to start from Monday.

The project will be completed within two months. If successful this will provide a new avenue for recycling of bio waste which till now is merely dumped without recycling.

The Islamabad Capital Territory Administration (ICTA) has approached Capital Development Authority (CDA) planning wing for permission to set up a bio-gas plant which will run on vegetable and other bio waste.

In this regard ICT director agriculture has written to planning wing to seek permission for setting up the same. Considerable bio waste is generated in Sabzi Mandi. However the same is not recycled.

Now the Market Committee has requested to set up a first of its kind bio-gas plant within the premises of Sabzi Mandi.

The planning wing has visited the proposed site and recommended that market committee and ICT Agriculture Department may set up the plant in the vicinity of existing STP at Sector I-9.

Progress on Korang Bridge

Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to construct Korang bridge and underpass at PWD under Islamabad Expressway Signal free corridor from its own resources.

The project is approved under PSDP, however, this year funds had not been allocated, officials told CDA Chairman Amer Ali Ahmed and Islamabad IGP Aamir Zulfiqar during their visit to the Korang Bridge on Wednesday.

Officials said the authority in its meeting decided to allocate Rs1.5 billion from the surplus it has created in its account for the betterment of the city.

However federal government would be requested for allocation of funds in this regard under PSDP programme next year.

CDA chairman and Islamabad IG discussed that rather than short term measures like protected U-turns, for the convenience of public and commuters, there was need for initiation of full project.

CDA chief has issued instructions to seek permission from finance and planning department to start the project with authority’s own resources.
