Uniform education system

To equally break the back of the mafia that is doing business in the name of education

SUKKUR: The announcement by Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood about the national curriculum being completed in March next year for introducing a uniform education system in the country is a very proactive measure. It would remove many objectionable gaps between government and private schools. Students from government schools are no less competent than those of prestigious private schools in the country and can fare equally well, provided that the former is granted opportunities on a par. Much of the differences arise from the textbooks and the medium of instruction. However, with a uniform education system, the students would have the competitively equal advantage.

Though private schools do co-exist with the government schools in the developed Western countries, the difference remains negligible with the same curricula and medium of instructions being practised in both public and private schools. Once the uniform curriculum is implemented all across the country, it would also save many low-income parents from the ordeal of sending their children to substandard private schools to vie with the upper crust, complacent that their children are also enrolled in private schools. The uniform education system will equally break the back of the mafia that is doing business in the name of education.

With the implementation of a uniform education system, one can hope that a positive change will usher in our education system. There should not be class discrimination in the sphere of education. People from all classes should have equal access to education.
