"Shawshank Redemption came out in theatres 25 years ago today. 'Get busy living or get busy dying' seems to be the most referenced quote from the film but this one was actually my favourite. Thank you to everyone who made our box office flop one of the most beloved movies of all time," he wrote.

According to Morgan, this quite is what the message of the film was all about.

Freeman had earlier told the Vanity Fair about how the people still addressed him as his character from the film. "About everywhere I go, people say, 'Hey, Shawshank Redemption is the greatest movie I ever saw.' It just comes out of them."

The film was written and directed by Frank Darabont, showing a banker, Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins), who is sentenced to life in Shawshank State Penitentiary for the murders of his wife and her lover, despite his claims of innocence. He befriends a fellow prisoner, who is a smuggler named "Red" Redding (Morgan Freeman).
