RAWALPINDI: Two kids were swept away in a stream in the Tench Bhatta area of Rawalpindi on Friday. The police said 11-year-old Shafiqur Rehman, a resident of Hazara Colony, had gone to swim in a stream with his friends. Quoting one of the children, Shafiq’s father Abdul Rehman said two boys challenged each other to a race. Though Shafiq did not know how to swim, he jumped into the drain and was swept away. Young Mohammad Wali, who was present nearby, jumped into the stream to try and rescue Shafiq, but he was also swept away. A rescue worker said the search had to be suspended due to darkness. However, some rescue workers, relatives and friends were still present at the stream when this report was filed.
