Peter Dinklage sets new record with his 4th Emmy Award

The actor said he literally 'walked through ice and fire,' and would do it again in a heartbeat

Entertainment Desk September 24, 2019

Peter Dinklage made history on Sunday after his fourth consecutive Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. He previously took the same award in 2011, 2015 and 2018.

Dinklage, as Tyrion Lannister, was among the most lauded characters in the series. Tyrion's supporting role did not only coincide with the enemies of the throne, but also with the friends and saviours of the seven kingdoms.

By the end of the series, Tyrion and Arya had made the most significant developments in terms of their characters, as compared to who they were in the beginning. The two played a leading role in bringing an alteration to the course of the narrative altogether.

However, it was not just the way their characters developed, but it was how Dinklage managed to carry his role and his acting that made him worthy of the recurrent Emmys he received.

The star became overwhelmed as he received the Emmy and continued to address the audience, "Thank you. I have no idea what I'm about to say, but here we go. I count myself so fortunate to be a member of a community that is all about tolerance and diversity because no other place could I be standing on a stage like this," said Dinklage.

"It's been about 10 years, all said and done, since the moment I met Dave and Dan until right now," he said while reminiscing his meeting with the series creators David Benioff and DB Weiss.

"I had no idea what I was getting myself into, but I knew that David and Dan were quite brilliant. Ten years of absolute sweat, but 10 years of the most incredible, talented, funniest people that I've ever been lucky enough to work with," added the star.

"We did nothing but sweat, we did nothing but laugh. We literally walked through fire and ice for you. Literally. And I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. Thank you," concluded the actor in a heart warming manner, as he thanked the producers of the show, making the audience just as emotional.

HBO's Game of Thrones was nominated for a total of 14 Primetime Emmy Awards this year according to TVLine. Other nominees included Kit Harington (Jon Snow) for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series; Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series; and Gwendoline Christie (Ser Brienne of Tarth), Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister), Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) and Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
