The number of celebrities who have opened up about mental illnesses or attempted to create awareness on the subject have increased during the past couple of years. From Bollywood’s Deepika Padukone to Hareem Farooq and Mansha Pasha coming forward with their battle with depression, the stigma surrounding the topic has reduced. In a recent turn of events, actor Mawra Hocane revealed that she is suffering from social anxiety and is searching for ways to cope with it. She also shed light on her struggles with the condition while responding to a fan on social media.

The actor took to her Instagram account on Thursday as she posted a video of her morning cardio, with the caption, “And then I ran so fast my phone fell off.”

One of her followers inquired whether she suffers from social anxiety and Mawra’s response was surprising indeed.

“Yes. I developed anxiety recently and I’ve been battling with it one day at a time. For everyone who is reading it and has suffered anxiety we are all in this together,” replied the Sanam Teri Kasam starlet.

The Hocane sisters also grabbed the spotlight earlier for their advice on mental health on a local TV show. They suggested that eating clean can curb anxiety and depression. Following this, the duo received severe backlash for supposedly undermining the causes of mental disorders, with several activists and social media users calling them out for their “irresponsible remarks”. They were called out for speaking from a place of privilege. Mawra however, kept her personal struggles to herself, without responding to the mockery at the time.
