Justice for Nimrita

Letter September 23, 2019
Demonstrations and peaceful protests have been staged to put pressure on the government

SHIKARPUR: Nimrita, a final-year student of Bibi Aseefa Dental College Larkana, was found dead in her hostel room. The college administration was reported to have said that she committed suicide. On the other hand, Nimirta’s brother ruled out such a possibility and said that her sister had been murdered. Although a judicial committee has been set up at the request of the Sindh government to probe this tragic incident, there has not been much headway in the case.

To pressure the government, many demonstrations and peaceful protests have been staged by people belonging to all walks of life, from Kashmore to Karachi, showing solidarity with the Hindu community. Already tightly in grip of fear, due to Mirpurkhas incident and Ghotki violence, the Hindu community has now been completely in a state of utter despondency after Nimirta’s mysterious murder.

We, therefore, earnestly request the Sindh government to expedite the process of investigation and bring the perpetrators to book and do justice to our sister Nimirta and her family.
