Govt starts land acquisition for Chohan Dam
Dam will eliminate dwindling water supplies to various Union Councils
RAWALPINDI:
The government has started land acquisition for Chohan Dam to overcome dwindling water supplies to seven Union Councils (UCs) of Rawalpindi, officials said on Wednesday.
The construction contract would be awarded after completion of the feasibility study, they said.
The government has released Rs400 million out of Rs5.30 billion earmarked for the project which will be overseen by Small Dams Organisation (SDO).
The dam which is to be constructed on Sil River will eliminate dwindling water supplies to various Union Councils(UCs) of Potohar Town including Dhamyal, Girja, Chakra, Dhaman Syedan, Lakhan, Chak Jalaldin and Kalyal. All UCs falling under coverage of Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) are currently experiencing water scarcity owing to the rapid rise in population.
