A famous voice of the 90's, Alamgir was born on August 11, 1955. He started singing in a hotel in Karachi, where he was discovered for his melodious voice. His first song Albaila Rahi lead to overnight fame as he went onto making bigger hits.
However, his attachment with to the PAF was expressed in particular after his song Tum He Se Ae Mujahido came out. He wrote the song free of charge and purely out of love and affection for the armed forces. His speech progressed into a conversation about that very song which he began to describe as a 'love song'.
"That was not a song; it was a feeling. It was my love for the forces," said the legend as he shared the story behind it. "I was on a world tour in the 90's. I went from South Africa to Los Angeles for a show. On that very day, I received a call from the former Air Chief, Hakeem Ullah," Alamgir recalled at the event. "He told me that he will retire in a year and before going he wanted to leave a souvenir. So he told me to make a milli song. I could not contain my excitement as I knew this will not just be a an expression, but souvenir from the Chief himself to the people he serves. Shaheed ki jo mout hai, wo qoum ki hayaat hai.. so even when I think about these lyrics today, I get goosebumps and become emotional."
Telling his story overwhelmed the singer even further and after he was done talking about the song, he burst into tears again. By the end of his speech, he sang Maaon Ki Dua Poori Hui, at the request of the hosts for the youth in the audience. After this Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar stepped on stage to present Alamgir with the Lifetime Achievement award.
