Education in bad state

Letter September 18, 2019
We should have serious introspection.

KARACHI: Corruption has become a common phenomenon for people in developing countries, precisely because they are mostly ruled by corrupt politicians motivated only by greed and self-interest. Pakistan is one such country. However, the education sector seems to be the worst affected from corrupt practices. In Pakistan, one fails to find a single department or institution that is free from the scourge of corruption.

The quality of education in Pakistan has been declining for some time now, and it appears that all of the factors responsible for the sad state of affairs stem from corruption. Our literacy rate has gone down from 60% to 58%, while the number of children out of school in Pakistan is second only to Nigeria. If we intend to overcome this problem, we need to identify the black sheep in our education system that are to be blamed for it. Good education is the good future of Pakistan. We should give proper education to the students in government schools. It will lead us on the path of progress and development. It is mainly through education that we can make real progress and earn respect of the international community. A country known for corruption not only brings a bad name to the country but brings in low self-esteem as well. We should have serious introspection.
