'GoT' season eight bags 10 trophies at the Creative Arts Emmys

Emmys have not only forgiven, but rewarded the show runners for an unforgettable season

Game of Thrones' final season became so controversial that people went as far as signing a petition to have it remade. If you were among them, it may be distressing to know that the season snagged a record- breaking number of Emmy nods and has already won 10 of those over the weekend's Creative Arts Emmys.

The main Emmy event is to be held on September 22, next Sunday, but the Creative Arts Emmys took place over the weekend at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles.


GoT show-runners David Benioff and DB Weiss undoubtedly became the biggest hits of the weekend. According to EW, by the end of the second night, HBO led with 25 trophies, followed by Netflix with 23 and National Geographic with 8. Categories won by GoT include




  1. Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama series

  2. Outstanding Special Visual Effects

  3. Outstanding Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes

  4. Outstanding Makeup for a Single-Camera Series

  5. Outstanding Stunt Coordination for a Drama Series, Limited Series or Movie

  6. Outstanding Main Title Design

  7. Outstanding Music Composition for a Series

  8. Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series

  9. Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series

  10. Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Drama Series.

GOT received a total of 32 nominations, also making HBO the network with the most nominations this year. The show has scored nominations for the Best Drama series, whilst stars Kit Harington and Emilia Clarke were nominated for lead actor and actress in a drama series. Supporting actors including Peter Dinklage, Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams also received nominations.

The final winners for these categories will be disclosed next Sunday.
