PESHAWAR: This is with reference to Farhat Taj’s article of June 11 titled ‘Reasons for an operation in south Punjab’. She quotes Syeda Abida Hussain and I have to say that this woman is perhaps the first person from that province with any influence who has dared to speak the truth. Apart from the jihadi groups in south Punjab there are also organisations in Lahore which are at the very least providing a nursery for such organisations to take root and grow.
America gives Pakistan billions of dollars to fight terrorism but this should now be made conditional on Islamabad going after the jihadis in south Punjab as well. If Pakistan cannot dot this itself it should ask for international assistance. Only if Punjab produced more courageous politicians in the mould of Abida Hussain the situation would not be what it is today.
