Teacher unions announce sit-in on Sept 19

Meeting approves six-point charter of demands, including regularisation of jobs

LAHORE: The government schoolteachers, including the computer teachers, have expressed their concerns over the recent policies of Department of School Education Punjab.

Terming it as injustice, Punjab Government Schools Association of Computer Teachers (PACT) has decided to stage a sit-in in front of the chief minister’s office on September 19. Meanwhile, the United Teachers Association declared to next level protests to an ‘effective’ step if their demands were not met by September 30.

Announcing a protest campaign under the motto of ‘Let the computer teachers teach’, PACT President Kashif Shehzad Chaudhry said a sit-in would be held in front of the CM office. He said the computer science curriculum was outdated and there was a need to modernise it as per the changing and technological world and the involvement of computer teachers in the tasks other than pedagogy.

240 teachers summoned over cheating allegations

As many as 10 teachers’ associations have joined hands to form an alliance against the policies of the Punjab Education Department and announced a joint struggle against the policies formed for the government schools.

A teachers union gave the deadline of September 30 for the acceptance of their demands including revoking of the decision of handing over the government educational institutes to the local bodies and NGOs.

The meeting also approved a six-point charter of demands including the demand of regularisation of jobs of teachers who have completed their three-year contract.

The participants also agreed to continue the movement until the demands were met.
