Mahmood okays three housing schemes in K-P

Schemes include projects in Swat, Hangu and Peshawar

PESHAWAR: The provincial chief executive on Friday granted his formal approval for at least three housing schemes in the province, including the establishment of and initiating construction work on a housing scheme in Swat.

This was directed by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Minister Mahmood Khan on Friday as he chaired a meeting of the provincial housing department to review housing schemes launched by the incumbent government.

Mahmood formally approved the establishment and initiation of construction work on the housing schemes at Dangram Swat. The scheme is spread over an area of 218 kanals and will also include a media colony for local journalists.

The chief minister further approved the establishment of the Hangu Township Scheme on self-finance basis.

Directing to expedite work on ongoing and new housing schemes in the province, Mahmood stressed on the timely completion of the ‘Naya Pakistan Housing Programme’ in the Surizai District of Peshawar which is spread over an area of 8,500 kanals.  Furthermore, he directed to complete the Peshawar Model Town.

Terming the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) City in Nowshera as a flagship project of the provincial government, Mahmood said that the project is spread over an area of 80,000 kanals and lies on the junction of Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Hazara and Peshawar valleys.

He was told that work on the project is being imitated in cooperation with the Frontier Works Organization (FWO). Moreover, he was told that around half of the land required for the project, or around 40,000 kanals, has been acquired while efforts are underway to acquire the remaining land.

Mahmood directed the relevant departments to extend their support and cooperation for the acquisition of land for the project. The city, he hoped, will help promote trade and economic activities in the region.

During the meeting, Mahmood was told that construction work on the establishment of some 20,000 estimated homes in the Sudozai area of Peshawar will commence once an agreement for the purpose has been signed with the Pakistan Housing Authority Foundation (PHAF).

The provincial housing department suggested that so far, they had set up some 1,877 plots to build houses on in Peshawar, Nowshera, Abbottabad and Kohat under the Khpal Kor Housing Scheme. A further 371 plots have been allotted under the Mullazai Housing Scheme located on Warsak Road.

Similarly, half of the development work on the Jalozai Housing Scheme has been completed. The scheme is spread over an area of 8,905 kanals.
