PESHAWAR: Despite assurances from the treasury benches and even promises from the provincial chief minister, the provincial government has yet to come up with a clear cut formula on the distribution of development funds.

As the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Assembly gears up to meet on Thursday afternoon, lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are anticipating the government will introduce a new formula for the division and distribution of development funds.

Government sources told The Express Tribune that soon, a new formula for the distribution of resources will be introduced in the assembly.

ANP’s Sardar Hussain Babak stated that the incumbent government is breaking all traditions of the assembly, adding that never before has the opposition been denied of their right.

Meanwhile, K-P Information Minister Shaukat Yousafzai stated that since the makeup of the assembly had been altered with the addition of lawmakers from the newly-merged districts, the formula for resource distribution needs to be amended accordingly.

He assured that no constituency will be deprived of their due funds. Moreover, he said that soon a new local government system will be implemented which will drive development.
