The Pakistan Army on Wednesday announced the promotion of four major generals to the rank of lieutenant generals, said a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Major General Mohammad Aamer, Major General Mohammad Chiragh Haider, Major General Nadeem Ahmed Anjum and Major General Khalid Zia were promoted to the three-star rank.

In August, Prime Minister Imran Khan gave a three-year extension to General Qamar Javed Bajwa, the country’s army chief, in view of the ‘regional security environment’.

Gen Qamar was set to retire on November 29 on completion of his three-year term but now he would continue to serve as head of the army until November 2022.

Earlier in April, army promoted Lt Gen Faiz Hameed, Lt Gen Azhar Abbas, Lt Gen Nauman Mahmood and Lt Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza from major general to their existing ranks.
