LAHORE: The Planning and Development Board Punjab is planning a project to promote digitisation of urban land record management in order to address challenges pertaining to it. While speaking on the occasion, Planning and Development Board Chairman Habibur Rehman Gilani stated that the current systems involved for the digitisation of land records do not include urban land, as the recording of urban properties is being undertaken through the registration of deeds. “This process lacks spatial information and deed for registration of the property is explicitly allowed without requiring any proof of ownership,” he said. In the absence of a standard system of recording land rights in urban areas, different agencies (both private and public sector) have devised their own individual systems to record these in areas of their respective jurisdiction and according to their operational requirements, he added.
