Continued siege in IOK worst example of Indian aggression: PM Imran

Premier along with cabinet members and COAS visits LoC on Defence Day

Lockdown in Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK) is one of the worst instances of human rights violations, Prime Minister Imran Khan said as he met families of martyrs and those injured in ceasefire violations (CFVs) across the Line of Control (LoC) on Friday.

This year, the Defence and Martyrs Day was observed as Kashmir Solidarity Day.

Curfew and strict communication blockade continues in IOK since August 5, when New Delhi repealed Article 370 of the Indian constitution, stripping occupied Kashmir of its special status. Ceasefire violations by Indian forces from across the LoC have also increased and have resulted in both civilian and military casualties.

“India’s deliberate targeting of unarmed civilians in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and continued siege of innocent Kashmiris in IOK are worst examples of the human rights violations,” he said, according to ISPR, the military’s media wing.

Army chief General Qamar Bajwa, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Defence Minister Pervez Khattak and Chairman Kashmir Committee Syed Fakhar Imam accompanied the PM.

The prime minister was briefed on the ongoing situation on LoC. He interacted with victims of Indian aggression and lauded the resilience of martyrs’ families.

PM Imran reiterated that Pakistan firmly stood with Kashmiris for their right to self-determination.

He said that while Pakistan’s current efforts were to expose fascist Indian regime to the world; its armed forces remained fully capable and prepared to thwart any Indian misadventure.

The premier also interacted with troops. He lauded their state of readiness, effective response to Indian CFVs and high morale of the troops.
