Mehwish Hayat lauds Hollywood's 'changing tide' with Marvel's Pakistani-American superhero

Marvel announced their first-ever Muslim superhero, Ms Marvel will be out on November 12.

Ms Marvel, real name Kamala Khan will be the first Pakistani-American superhero to headline her own solo Marvel project.

“You will meet her in her Disney+ series and then you will see her in our films,” said Marvel producer Kevin Feige, adding, “It  is incredibly exciting for us.”

The project will be helmed by Bisha K Ali.

Actor Mehwish Hayat lauded Hollywood's move to be more inclusive of other ethnicities.

"Great news! Glad to see that the tide is turning," the Punjab Nahi Jaungi star tweeted. "Hollywood seems to be accepting the problem. Long way to go, but it is a start. Hope others will also take heed about representation."



Ms Marvel will revolve around a Pakistani-American from New Jersey, who has the ability to stretch and change shape.

The project is in early development and no timeline or cast has been finalised yet.

Ms Marvel joins the diverse slate of Marvel, which includes The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision, Loki and Hawkeye.
