Reforming society through media

The need to promote positive aspects of our society

LAHORE: Film industry plays an essential role in bringing about revolutionary changes in society. Western nations such as the UK controlled and changed the mindset of their societies by showing positive content. Shakespeare’s plays has had a significant influence on literature as it has shaped the meanings of love, hate, revenge, bravery, madness, etc. Those plays transformed not only the English society but the world. Pakistan is passing through a moral crisis. Most of the movies and dramas promote feelings of jealousy, hatred, enmity, unfaithfulness, dishonour and many other evils in our society. It not only destroys our society but damages our traditions as well. Pakistan’s film industry has spoiled the tradition of joint family system. In the 1970-80s, it was considered better than an independent or a nuclear family system — a family in which only a couple and their children live. The Pakistani film industry portrays the joint family system promoting feelings of jealousy and enmity among relatives. Saas-Bahu conflicts, Damaad-Sussar conflicts are the most popular.

We, as a nation, need to promote positive aspects of our society. We need to promote our culture in a better way. We need to encourage scriptwriters, producers, drama writers to work for the betterment of our society by trying to write plays similar to Shakespeare plays. This will help shape a better society.
