Presiding over a hospital waste supervisory committee on Wednesday, the DC said that medical waste is hazardous for humans while poultry waste in canals creates an unbearable stench, contaminating the water and making it unusable for animals.
He maintained that selling waste for a few rupees instead of properly disposing of it was putting lives at risk. He directed that cases would be registered against the owners of private hospitals while poultry farms involved in polluting the environment would be sealed.
He stated that all private hospitals should be bound to install incinerators or make alternate arrangements to dispose of medical waste. Waste Management Committees should be formed at each hospital, he said. The DC said that during open courts, a large number of people complained about the stench caused by pollution from poultry farms.
