Govt to hire 97 doctors for Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI: Punjab government will hire at least 97 doctors on ad-hoc basis for a year to overcome shortage of doctors in government hospitals. The government hospitals are running short of physicians, surgeons, paramedics and caregivers, officials told The Express Tribune. The process of recruiting practitioners including surgeons, consultants, physicians, neurologists, orthopedic surgeons, gynecologist and others has been started on immediate basis and job applications in this regard has been summoned.  The process would be overseen by Vice-Chancellor (VC) Rawalpindi Medical University and Allied Hospitals, Prof Dr Muhammad Umar and would be completed within a month. Some 65 male and female medical officers, two surgeons, three pathologists, three anesthetists, two pediatric specialists, a physician, four gynecologists, a neurologist, six radiologists, a psychiatrist, two orthopedic surgeons would be deployed in allied hospitals including Benazir Bhutto General Hospital (BBGH), Holy Family Hospital (HFH) and District Headquarters (DHQ) hospital. It is pertinent to note that on her visit to dengue wards of hospitals in Rawalpindi on August 26, the provincial Minister of Health Yasmin Rashid had directed the medical and paramedical staff to work 18-hours shift while she had also approved immediate recruitment on vacant seats.
