Enrolment in BS not mandatory for two-year degree holders

HEC has not discontinued or terminated the two-year degree programme

ISLAMABAD: The apex higher education body on Tuesday stated that those who have completed a two-year bachelor’s degree are not required to enrol in the four-year programme.

A statement issued by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Tuesday stated that those completing the two-year bachelor’s programme of BA (arts), BSc (science) or BComm (commerce) will only see the nomenclature of their degree changed to that of an “Associate Degree”.

“HEC has not discontinued or terminated the two-year degree programme,” it said, adding that initially, even the curriculum structure and mode of examination will remain unchanged.

It added that through consultations will all stakeholders, the scheme of studies will be revamped to improve its quality and ensure that graduates can succeed in the economic environment.

“Holders of the Associate Degree will also be allowed to join the four-year Bachelor of Studies (BS) programme if they so wish,” it concluded.
