PESHAWAR: The provincial government on Tuesday relaxed a ban on the hunting and trapping of cranes in the province. A notification issued by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Forest, Environment and Wildlife Department on Tuesday said that the ban has been relaxed for six weeks from September 2 to October 16.

The government, however, imposed certain conditions for hunting and trapping cranes, limiting hunting camps to catch 15 cranes in a season.

Moreover, the number of cranes in a camp has been limited to 10 pairs. The government also set the fee for crane hunting at Rs400 per bird per year. The fees for setting up crane camps in the fall season will be Rs5,000 per camp. The no-objection certificate (NOC) for displaying a crane will cost Rs1,000 for each event and a NOC for importing or exporting a crane will be Rs2,500 per bird.
