In a first, Saudi Arabia appoints woman traffic collision inspector

In line with Saudi Vision 2030, the initiative contributes to women empowerment in the kingdom

Saudi Arabia's first-ever female traffic collision inspector initiated her new job on Riyadh’s major roads on Tuesday.

On her first day of duty, she successfully monitored three accidents, Arab News reported.

In line with Saudi Vision 2030, this step contributes to women empowerment where Najm for Insurance Services places confidence in its women employees.

Saudi women allowed to travel abroadwithout male guardian’s permission

"This appointment confirms the company’s commitment of providing fair opportunities to women to serve within its workforce in roles related to managing and monitoring traffic accidents," said the organisation’s CEO Mohammad Al-Suliman.

Recently, the kingdom allowed women to travel abroad without approval from a male guardian. The reform weakens the restrictive guardianship system that has long been a symbol of repression against women.

In other changes unveiled in the recent past, Saudi women were also granted the right to officially register childbirth, marriage or divorce and to be recognised as a guardian to children who are minors — same as men.
